BLIA received it’s first grant in the summer of 2010. It was given to BLIA by DEQ and Karen Williams and written be BLIA’s grant writer Sue Ellen Dolan. The amount was for 17,600 dollars. The first monies were spent on weevils that were put into our lake on August 14TH 2010. The weevils were placed at both ends of the lake in the amount of roughly 6000 microscopic weevil per east and west ends. The cost was 13,350 dollars. In July of 2011 another 12,000 plus weevil were entered into the lake at both ends. The remaining 4100 dollars from the grant along with 200 dollar donations from many of the 70 plus residents will pay for the remaining weevils that the grant doesn’t cover.
BLIA will continue to look for grants that can help us add to our infrastructure and to maintain already set in place equipment and biological (weevils) controls.
